Courtney's random awesomeness!

questce-que-cest:

I found out last week that SCADRadio’s 2012 Spring Record Fair was coming up this weekend.  I’ve gone to the past 4 or so and I was prepared to barter with my coworkers for a day off for this one, but I ended up having off Sunday anyway, so it all worked out.

So today I headed down to Savannah with my friend, Trisha.  It’s not too long of a drive, but it’s a little boring - well worth it though.  I was expecting tons of awesome records when I got there, but I wasn’t expecting as much as the fair had to offer this year.  It was held in the SCAD Student Center, a four-floor building (although the top two are not full floors), and the place was packed with record vendors and printmakers (there was a printmaking showcase and some workshops apparently) selling their respective wares.  There was a ton of stuff I would’ve loved to bring home with me - prints and records alike - but, alas, I am not a millionaire.

I bought a ton of records, including some stuff by Pearls Before Swine, REM, The Cramps, Duran Duran, Sparks, Echo & the Bunnymen, Magazine, Uncle Bonsai, Downcast, The Smiths, and T. Rex.  A really great haul, with some really fun finds.  I was so busy just randomly digging that I even forgot to look for Nick Cave records and, even though I’m kicking myself for that, I feel content with all the stuff I got.  Trisha is always a trooper, having lots of patience with me while I’m taking forever to shop and sometimes even holding my records when I don’t have enough hands to dig or pay people!

I looked at almost all of the prints that were for sale, and I loved a lot of them.  Unfortunately, I don’t have the wall space for huge posters.  But I got one cute little print by The Half and Half and I got a neat Sean Starwars sticker.  I took a lot of business cards, so I’ll know where to look for things if I ever have a gigantic house I need art for.

After I significantly lightened my wallet, Trisha and I went out into the city a little bit.  I really like Savannah - there is a lot of cool stuff there and it’s just a beautiful place.  I’m sad to say I didn’t find anything at the vintage clothing store I always hit (except a really cute dress, but it was white and I would never wear it because it’d get dirty so easily).  I didn’t even buy anything at the art supply store.  However, at Paris Market, I found a few old photos that caught my eye.  Paris Market always has lots of cool old trinkets - photos, slides, pendants, stationary, cameras, etc.  I found a weird picture of an oil painting with creepy animals and children and Native Americans.  I didn’t buy the picture, but I will make an attempt to find out who did the original painting.  I did, however, buy a photo of two charming dudes hanging out by a fireplace, giggling about something (I’ve created many dialogs that could have been).

We also went by this neat store called Planet Fun that stocks tons of dorky stuff - old video games and consoles, comic books, and nerdy toys.  I found a Chococat.  I have loved Chococat since I was little and I couldn’t pass up on this cute one, with a flower and a ladybug sitting on its head.  New friend!

Planet Fun brought our time in Savannah to a close.  I was having some doubts about going out of town today, but I’m really glad I went because I had a lot of fun.  After all the walking, my messed up ankle is kind of killing me, but it still seems worth it.

On the way back home, we stopped at the Sheldon Church Ruins.  Trisha had never been, and I really like how quiet it is there.  We poked around for a little bit and saw some weird teenagers getting their pictures taken (by their mom?), leaning against various walls of the church and sticking their butts out.  They even let their little sister have a turn.  Weird.  As we left the churchyard, we saw a tree that had (presumably) been filled with brick as it was dying.  It’s a strange sight, a tree full of bricks.

I tried to find Auldbrass Plantation to show her the gate and the big longhorn cows too, but my GPS was being a whore and my car was close to running out of gas, so we had to abandon that mission and save it for another time.

After my long Saturday at work, which was kind of stressy, and a long, crappy week before that, it was nice to get away for a little while.  Back to work tomorrow and back to house-hunting and preparing for my dad’s visit.

Best time for a road trip! Had a blast getting away from this hell hole! I’ve missed my time hanging out with Courtney.
